Day Centre

The focus in developing day care at St. David’s has been both on the person needing assistance during the day and their home carer. It’s been organised along the following principles:

    • Offering a service that allows home carers to continue looking after their relatives, but recognises that they too need time to leave the house and conduct routine activities (shopping, meeting friends, banking etc.) while feeling secure that a person is well looked after.
    • Ensuring that the person needing additional help feels part of a community.
    • Making sure that while at St. David’s, the client benefits from the expertise of an excellent kitchen staff to receive nutritious meals (and also reduce the burden on the carer).
    • To offer the client help with daily activities such as showering that their carer may not be able to assist with. St. David’s has the facilities that are designed to accommodate less mobile clients.
    • To try and maintain the person’s physical abilities by a programme of exercise.
    • To have fun and enjoy life by offering a wide range of activities.
    • St. David’s also recognises that people may not want to be sociable all the time. St. David’s has extensive grounds so there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy nature.  Indoors, people can surf the internet, read current magazines and novels or enjoy a film.
